13th International Workshop on Bifurcation and Degradation in Geomaterials
From 22 to 25 June 2026, the 13th International Workshop on Bifurcation and Degradation in Geomaterials (IWBDG 2026) was held at BOKU University in Vienna. The workshop was organised under the chairmanship of Prof. Wei Wu and brought together researchers from universities and research institutions from many parts of the world. The scientific programme comprised ten technical sessions and covered a broad range of topics, including instability and localisation in geomaterials, constitutive modelling, granular mechanics, rock mechanics and fracture, coupled processes, experiments, and advanced computational methods.
All members of the MOTRAN team participated in the workshop. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss current research, exchange ideas with leading researchers in geomechanics, and learn about recent theoretical, numerical and experimental developments. The broad programme brought together different perspectives on the behaviour of geomaterials and stimulated discussions across several areas connected with the ongoing work of the team.
Scientific exchange continued beyond the technical sessions during the breaks and the workshop’s social programme. These informal discussions helped establish new contacts, strengthen existing collaborations, and explore possibilities for future joint research.
